A FAMILY in Gomersal have taken a week-old lamb into their hearts and home when he was orphaned shortly after birth.

Now Brian, as he was named by four-year old Ruby, has made friends with the family's two pet dogs and is sleeping in a large dog crate too.

Mum Tammy Blackburn explained that a neighbouring farmer had let them take the lamb home to hand rear after Ruby pleaded with her dad Andrew Clough over FaceTime.

"Ruby just absolutely adores him and she was the one that decided to call him Brian.

"When people find out we've got a lamb in the house, they think we're crazy. But he just thinks he's one of the dogs - he's no trouble."

She added: "He'll stay with us for a few months until he comes off the milk, then he'll go back to the farmer. But he'll be in the field behind our house, so Ruby will still get to see him."

She described how he needs feeding from a bottle every five hours, so they only have to get up once a night. And she added that he goes out in the garden when she lets their dogs out, so there's only the occasional accident in the house.
