THE Office for National Statistics (ONS) wants to make sure that everyone in Bradford can be counted as part of Census 2021.

As Census Day approaches on March 21, four census support centres in Bradford will be offering help to residents to make sure everyone can complete their census form online or on paper.

Julia Armstrong Census Engagement Manager for Bradford SE, said: “We are so pleased that the people of Bradford will have this extra support to make Census 2021 a success.

"It is crucial for the future of Bradford district that we can make sure everyone is included and offering local help and support will make a big difference.

"Households are receiving their Census 2021 letters right now and there is help on the website and through the contact centre on 0800 141 2021, but for some people nothing beats having a friendly person take them through the questions and reassure them about what to do. Having well known and trusted community organisations involved will reassure people about Census 2021”.

Good Things Foundation has partnered with Karmand Community Centre, ITI Training Centre, EASA Learning Shop and the Bradford Deaf Centre to offer Covid secure support and facilities for people who want help with their census completion. Opening hours vary and some centres are offering appointments so check online or call the centres to check.

The teams at each centre are looking forward to playing their part in this once in a decade event.

Trevor Speight Census Engagement Manager Bradford NW, said: “Over the past six months we have been working with community organisations and local groups to help people understand why this is so important for Bradford.

"We found fantastic support across the district and now that census day is just around the corner we are looking forward to Census Day next weekend. Our job doesn't finish on Census Day though. People are asked to complete the census as soon as possible but we will continue to offer Q and A webinars and virtual completion sessions right through March and April if people need help. The census support centres are will continue to offer help during March and April."

The Ridge Medical Practice has also been involved with Census 2021.

Liz Wilson, Patient Experience Manager at The Ridge Medical Practice, said “At the Ridge Practice we know how important it is that everyone is counted as part of the census.

"The information people provide through the census, which includes details about their family, age and health is used to plan healthcare, schools, and public services and ensure that funding reflects the needs of the community.

"Census 2021 is the way to get an up to date picture of the people of Bradford so we decided it was important that we support Census2021.

"When Julia Armstrong offered to speak with our reception team about how people can get help to complete their census and what happens to their information we thought that was a good idea so that our team can help our patients.”

Census field officers will only follow up with households after Census Day on March 21 if householders have not yet completed their questionnaire, but they will never enter a household, be socially distanced, be equipped with PPE and work in line with all Government guidance.
