THESE splendid photographs were sent to us by Grant Edmunds of Perth, Western Australia. He would like to know if T&A readers can identify the drama group.

Says Grant: “I am doing some family research and have identified that my grandmother, Miss Fanny Bailey, was with the Allerton Amateurs (theatre/arts) group between 1922 and 1927. I’m not 100per cent sure of the name of the group.

I think these photos must have been professionally taken, although I do not know which photographic studio it was. or where it was.

If your readers have any information which may lead to identifying the name of the group that would be greatly appreciated.”

Bradford has a long history of amateur theatre, largely linked to its industrial heritage. Some mills had drama and music groups, not least the mighty Lister’s Mill which had a thriving dramatic society. Its debut production, Raffles, was in 1925.

Do you have any old photos of Bradford amateur dramatic societies and their productions? Or do you know anything about this Allerton theatre group?
