SIR - New proposals could see part of Bradford city centre being designated a Heritage Action Zone (T&A, March 5).

It seems that Little Germany is widely seen as falling far short of its potential. Can anyone imagine that this historic and unique area would be similarly blighted if it was in the centre of Leeds?

We are told that currently one third of its buildings are empty. Further, that many recent developments involve buildings converted into small low-cost flats, something that will surely make the area even less attractive to the sort of prestigious businesses that we need to see there.

Despite all this Labour Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe tells us that we have a "young, vibrant and dynamic" city. Really?

The Council has done far too little for far too long whilst watching the above decline. Is it now all too late one wonders?
