LATEST NEWS: Bradford estates 'robbed' of bus services after seven windows and one windscreen smashed in one week

A COUNCILLOR has hit out at vandals attacking buses and feels parents have to take responsibility for their "little brats".

Three services, that normally run through the heart of Holme Wood, were cut short for most of today.

First West Yorkshire announced on Twitter this morning that the 608, 617 and 618 buses would not serve the Holme Wood estate due to vandalism.

The 617 and 618 services terminated at Dudley Hill roundabout and the 608 ended at Broadstone Way/Lymington Drive instead.

It is the latest in a string of vandalism incidents involving buses within a similar area.

Last week, children smashed a bus window and threw stones as a bus driver pulled into Burnham Avenue, in Bierley - just over a mile away from Holme Wood.

Councillor Alan Wainwright (Lab, Tong) feels the parents of the "little brats" need to take responsbility.

He said: "There's been a tremendous amount of police activity over the last four days, including the helicopter yesterday.

"There are extra police, some in unmarked cars.

"The 'Trojan' buses are back on again, with plainclothes policemen on.

"We're asking for information, both the police and councillors.

"We want to know who these yobs are and why are these yobs out at night, some of which are under 10 years of age, lobbing bricks at buses and cars.

"Parents need to know where their kids are and parents need to be responsible.

"If they don't, then I'm afraid the police will be taking parents up on this.

"Eventually, they will get caught and when they do they will feel the full force of the law.

"The parents are responsible ultimately for what the little brats do."

The councillor outlined that there was a police presence on the Holme Wood estate at 6.45am this morning and revealed police and those representing the area are working hard together to try resolve the situation - including having a meeting with the new police inspector for Bradford South.

But he admitted it is difficult without the public giving information.

The three bus services returned to normal operation at around 4.57pm, according to First West Yorkshire.
