HERE we have another bunch of adorable bouncing babies to lift our spirits during these bleak times. These infants were born to mums and dads in Bradford, who have had to cope with restrictions brought about by the pandemic. From the sound of it, staff at Bradford Royal Infirmary have done a fantastic job in keeping parents-to-be calm and happy.

Bernie Morley and her partner Allan, from Tong, welcomed in the New Year with a new baby, Ollie, born in just over an hour.

“Ollie was the first baby born at the birth centre at Bradford Royal Infirmary in 2021, in record time of one hour and five minutes - a far cry from my daughter’s 29-hour labour,” says Bernie.

“I had a very complicated pregnancy, meaning I was at the maternity unit at least twice a week. The staff are amazing and in such a difficult time. My husband couldn’t be with me for any scans/appointments and they kept me so informed and calm.”

Ollie weighed 8lb 11oz.

“We had a wonderful midwife - thank you Nicci - and my husband was with me throughout. We certainly rang in the New Year in style!”

Baby Albie Scott Ickeringill was born on February 16 to Megan Kilner and partner Scott Ickeringill, of Low Moor.

The little boy came into the world at BRI weighing 7lb 4oz.

“I had a planned C-section, mostly chosen due to the coronavirus restrictions around partners being present during labour,” says Megan. “Scott was able to stay with me from the minute I got to hospital and for a few hours after my operation in the recovery room, which made me glad I chose that option.

Staff at the hospital were fantastic, and everything was really calm despite the restrictions.”

Sadie May Bailey and Christopher Bailey, of Queensbury, are the proud parents of baby Roman Bailey, born on December 12, weighing 7lb 4oz

“It was a Very quick natural birth,” says Sadie. Roman is a little brother for Grace.

A lovely gift to arrive on Valentine’s Day, Saiqa gave birth to baby Ayra at BRI. Both mum and partner

Waqar, who live in Bradford, are delighted. “The staff at BRI were amazing,” says Saiqa.

Courtney Bottomley, of Thackley, gave birth to daughter Jasmine at BRI, where she also found out she has coronavirus.

Jasmine weighed 6lbs 5oz and was keen to make her entrance.

“My waters broke at home,” says Courtney. “The ambulance staff got me there there, but on the way they had to park on Leeds Road in Thackley as they thought they wasn’t time. A car ambulance was following so he jumped out to get in the main ambulance to help, thinking she was coming as I was crowning.

“But they then thought they had a chance so set the blue lights flashing and we managed to get to BRI. Jasmine was born ten minutes after arrival. Luckily my mum got there a second after the ambulance so I wasn’t alone. I then tested positive for coronavirus.”
