SIR - Philip Davies, MP for Shipley, was correct to raise concerns that Bradford's Council Tax was yet again to be increased by the maximum amount permitted, when these special circumstances warranted no further increases this year. ( T&A, March 3).
In addition to the draconian 'diversity' commitments and their attendant costs, it is understood that council employees will be given a pay increase of two per cent when a freeze should be implemented. Furthermore it is understood that three per cent increase to the council tax had been justified on the basis of meeting 'demographic pressures', a very vague but obviously politicised term.
It would be reassuring should the highest remunerated council executives and senior councillors take lesser pay, but that seems unlikely as they seem more disposed to adding to our burdens than alleviating them.
