A DRINK driver was lucky to escape this early hours horror crash without serious injury, but had no luck in escaping from police.
Police tracked the boozed up driver at around 4.50 am today before they lost control of the car and were involved in a serious crash leaving the car unrecognisable.
Petrol and oil were left all over the road along with debris from the destroyed engine and smashed windscreen in Hostingley Lane between Thornhill in Dewsbury and Horbury Bridge, Wakefield.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit attended the incident, and arrested the driver after they tried to run away.
The Unit said: "Driver and passenger of this vehicle are lucky not to have been seriously injured.
"Both managed to run from vehicle, before driver located and arrested for drink driving. Bloods taken at hospital and results pending."
For drink driving you receive an automatic driving ban of at least 12 months, a fine and even in serious cases a jail sentence of up to six months.
