POLICE are appealing for information after masked burglars armed with baseball bats and bladed weapons struck at a house on Thursday.

The incident happened at 5.55pm on March 4 when an armed group of men tried to get into a house in Thornton Lodge Road, Huddersfield.

The men were armed with baseball bats and bladed weapons as they tried to break in, and the occupants were in the house at the time but emerged unscathed.

The armed group damaged a rear window at the house before running away in a silver getaway car.

Police believe the incident is linked to another attempted burglarled in nearby Winton Street which took place shortly beforehand.

Detectives' enquiries are ongoing into that offence where a group of suspects tried and failed to break into a house before fleeing in a silver car.

The four hapless suspects were described as males wearing dark clothing and face coverings.

Detective Inspector Sarah Lambert, of Kirklees CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into both of these crimes, which we are linking, and we would like to speak with anyone who witnessed either incident, who has relevant CCTV footage, or who saw a group of males leaving either street in a silver car.

“We fully recognise the alarm these incidents will have caused local residents and I can assure them a full investigation is ongoing.

“Reassurance patrols are also being stepped up in the area by the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team.”

Anyone who has information is asked to call Kirklees District CID on 101, quoting crime reference number 13210110420, or using the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.
