A DRIVER was stopped on the M62 overnight after being spotted speeding at more than 100mph - after driving to Bradford from Bolton for a late night snack.

The vehicle was stopped shortly before 2am on the motorway and not content with breaking the law by speeding the driver and their passengers were also flouting a number of Covid rules.

PC Martin Willis, who goes by the moniker Motorway Martin on Twitter, stopped the car after seeing it being driven at 107mph on the M62 at 1.52am.

After pulling the car - which appeared to be a blue Mercedes-Benz - over, he found that the four people in the car were all from different households, a blatant breach of Covid rules.

Not only that, they were on the return leg of an 85 mile journey from Bolton in Lancashire to Bradford after driving here for some food.

Motorway Martin said: "Not only are they travelling 37mph over the speed limit.

"There are four people in the car from different households and they're on their way home after travelling from Bolton to Bradford for some food. I really really do despair at times!"

Under the current Covid guidelines it is illegal to meet up with another person from a different household - never mind four households coming together - except for exercise, and people should not travel long distances unless absolutely necessary, which a late night snack absolutely isn't.

Speeding, especially serious offences like driving at more than 100mph, can land drivers with heavy fines and a driving ban.
