Residents say the fly-tipped streets are attracting rats and are a health hazard to people, particularly children.

Javed Khan, of Tennyson Place, says a whole window frame has been left outside his house for the last two weeks and the dumped rubbish is disgusting.

He said: "It is really bad. It is in the little snicket and it has been there for months and the council are not doing anything about it. It is full of rats and infestation. That is one part of the street. They are just burning stuff on another street. I have sent the council email after email.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

"If you go on Tennyson Place it runs all the way to the top then there is a little walkway, you will see all the rubbish once you get there. There is more on Hendford Drive, there is a snicket on your right or if you are coming up from the petrol station then it is on your left. It is all Incommunities houses there."

Bowling and Barkerend councillors have condemned the fly-tipping in the area. Cllr Hassan Khan said: "It's an eyesore. Children are around, it could cause fires too.

"We try our best to clean the area, including these snickets."

Cllr Rizwana Jamil (Lab, Bowling and Barkerend) added: "It's just a shame that people are not taking pride in the area where they live. A sad few are spoiling it for others.

"We contact residents regularly saying that it is so easy for them to take their rubbish to a household waste centre and also contact the council to get them to collect bulkier items."

Yasar Mohammed, of the Bradford4Better group which promotes community cohesion, says a number of fly-tipping hotspots have been targeted for clean-ups by the group over the last year.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

He said: "This is absolutely shocking and disgusting.

"We don't want the council just to keep cleaning up after these criminals we want these people caught, fined and prosecuted. This is the only way things will ever improve in our areas."

Bradford Council is teaming up with Incommunities and Barkerend Primary School on March 16 to carry out a clean-up on March 16 on Hendford Drive.

A council spokesman said: “We are taking a partnership approach as the land the fly-tipping takes place does not belong to Bradford Council.

"Our teams will work together to clear the area, this will be followed up by our wardens conducting a door knock and leaflet drop reminding residents of the householder duty of care.

“Social housing landlord Incommunities will also be working with their tenants regarding advice about their responsibilities as tenants.

“Fly-tipping is a national problem which has been increasing for many years.

"If incidents of fly-tipping are reported to Bradford Council they will be dealt with expeditiously and appropriately.

“We will investigate all incidents of fly-tipping to try to identify the criminals responsible for dumping it.

“If rubbish is dumped on Bradford Council land we will clear it up as soon as we can.

"Bradford Council is not responsible for removing rubbish from private land but we will advise the landowner how to get rid of it and suggest ways to prevent a repeat.

“If you see fly-tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible, including vehicle licence plate numbers and inform the council.”

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Fly-tipping can be reported be calling the Council 01274 431000 or go to bradford.gov.uk.

An Incommunities spokesman said: "We take fly-tipping seriously as it poses a risk to the health of our people and spoils everyone’s enjoyment of where they live.

"Our dedicated team work incredibly hard to help keep our neighbourhoods in a good condition.

"We would urge residents to report fly-tipping and remember that it is their responsibility to make sure rubbish is disposed of in a legal manner."
