A CCTV appeal has been launched after an attempted break-in at a popular music venue and cafe in Bradford.

The incident took place at Tapestry Arts, based on Factory Street in Dudley Hill, on Wednesday, February 10 at around 12.30am.

Police would like to speak to two people seen on CCTV approaching the premises while pushing a pram.

Footage from the night shows an attempt to gain access to the premises by would-be intruders who tried to force the door with a crow bar, before trying to kick the door. They were disturbed when an alarm started to go off and they fled the scene.

West Yorkshire Police said it is investigating the incident. But in a year that has seen our cultural spaces facing immense pressures to survive, the owners are appealing for anyone with information to reach out.

As well as being a performance and arts venue, the owners also serve a range of food through Tapestry Eats while you can also find recording studios and work spaces. Now, as the pandemic continues, it is prioritising Tapestry’s cafe venture.

A spokesperson for Tapestry said: “They didn’t actually get inside but they still caused a few grands worth of damage. It was our kitchen door. There’s nothing in there for them to steal. It’s a fools errand.

“They didn’t gain entry and, even if they had done, there’s nothing in there and no cash on the premises. All orders are online only.

“It’s just an inconvenience, paying out the money to fix it. If they got inside, it would have been a different story.

“We had to close for the best part of the day so we lost quite a bit of business again. But we’re back up and running again now. We had to close really because of work men there. We’ve now employed a night watchman to monitor the premises.”
