DRIVERS in Bradford could save 46 per cent on their car premium if they park on a driveway compared to parking on a road away from home, a study has found.

Data from GoCompare analysed the average price paid for car insurance for people aged 25 to 50 since lockdown began to find out if where you park makes a difference to your premium.

The study looked at the top 20 UK cities where drivers can save on their car insurance by parking on a driveway.

Bradford finished in third place, with a saving of 46 per cent on car insurance premium if they park on a driveway, compared to if they park on a road away from their home.

The best price average premium for Bradford comes at £710.09. However, if people do park on a road away from their address, that can increase to £1,322.35.

Hull saw the biggest potential difference, you could be saving up to 58 per cent on car insurance premium if they park on a driveway compared to if they parked on a road away from home. The best price average premium for Hull comes at £461.12, however, if you do park on a road away from your address, that can increase to a whopping £1,084.83.

London saw the least increase in car insurance premiums, with only a six per cent decrease.

Lee Griffin, CEO and founder, at GoCompare, said: “Where you park during the evening is really important. More crime tends to happen during the night and car insurance can be invalid if you declare you park on your driveway when you really do not, and you then have to make a claim.

“It’s always the best option to pay a little more knowing that if you have to make a claim, your claim won’t be invalidated.

“If you make a claim that ends up going to court and has CCTV that supports your claim, then you will have no issues.

“If you do lie about where you park overnight, not only will a claim be dismissed, it’s also breaking the law.”
