CITY may not have moved a place in the League Two table but a fourth straight win has got those ahead of them looking over their shoulders.

Here’s the final word from Walsall with a few things we noticed from Saturday’s victory.

CONFIDENT COOK

Andy Cook displayed his composure in front of goal with the controlled finish for his third goal in a week.

He had seen little of the ball up to that point – with his biggest contribution being defensively in getting an important head on a couple of Walsall set-pieces.

But, like any good striker, he grabbed the one big chance when it came along.

He won’t have expected to find himself in so much space in the box but used it wisely to bring the cross under control on his chest before shooting home on the turn.

Cook will be missed against Mansfield.

WATCHING WATT

A report in the Sun on Sunday that Elliot Watt is on Hull’s radar should not come as a big surprise.

The better City play, the more they are going to attract interest from elsewhere and Watt has proved one of the key performers.

The 20-year-old midfielder’s contract runs until the end of next season, which gives the Bantams plenty of leverage should another club come knocking with an offer.

But it is a sign of City’s progress that one of their young assets is being noticed and no doubt the likes of Paudie O’Connor will get similar attention.

SWITCHING OFF

It was a concern to see a bit of complacency creep into City’s play after the second goal.

Walsall had mustered very little up to that point but there was still a quarter of the game to go.

The Bantams invited the home side back into the contest after conceding from a corner and there were one or two uncomfortable scrapes.

Walsall were convinced they should have had a penalty for Niall Canavan’s nudge on Josh Gordon. It would have been a soft one as the striker threw himself down – but could easily have been given by referee Scott Oldham.

CHANGING GEARS

The strength of City’s bench has been a factor in this superb run but the first double change on Saturday affected the impetus.

They certainly lost something with the departure of Andy Cook and Callum Cooke as replacements Danny Rowe and Billy Clarke struggled to get into the game.

Subs have an even more significant role this season with the increased number allowed but the momentum went out of City’s game.

Clayton Donaldson did help to calm things down when he came on in the closing minutes and helped the team manage their way through stoppage time to clinch the victory.

MIDFIELD MAGIC

Levi Sutton felt he did not have the best of games at the Banks’s Stadium – but still chipped in with a goal and an assist.

It was only the second time Sutton has been on the scoresheet for City and both have been absolute crackers.

Forget all the Twitter jokes about “shanking it”, it was a piece of quick-thinking and fine execution to latch onto a loose ball and lash it home off the woodwork.

It was an example of another player full of belief and really enjoying his football during City’s purple patch.
