SIR - Whilst it was pleasing to read (T&A, February 25) that members of Bradford Council's planning panel had refused plans to build a cafe at a busy junction (Beckside Road/Spencer Road), it was concerning that officers had recommended its approval.

This proposed cafe, once again in these parts, was to be created out of storage containers. Why on earth do we allow this sort of thing at all? No wonder so many consider our city to be a dump.

That the work on the cafe had already begun despite the application not having been approved encapsulated another significant problem in Bradford. On far too many occasions buildings are erected without permission before retrospective planning is requested.

Yet another blight on our city overseen by a totally useless Council.
