A BRADFORD doctor has demonstrated how parents of secondary school children can carry out lateral flow Covid tests at home.
Parents will be asked to test their teenage children twice a week when they are scheduled to return to school on Monday, March 8.
Dr Amir Khan demonstrated how these tests can be carried out at home on today’s Good Morning Britain.
He says swabs must be taken before a child eats and they must always wash their hands before carrying out the test.
The first stage of the test sees a swab inserted right back in the teenager’s mouth. It should not touch their tongue or teeth.
The same swab must then be inserted one inch up an adult’s nose, but slightly less for a child. It must then be rotated 10 times in a child’s nostril.
The swab will then be placed into a testing tube filled with fluid, give the tube a good squeeze, pinch the tube and seal it.
The test results will then be ready 30 minutes later, with a positive test showing two lines.
