FIRE crews from Cleckheaton helped to save a horse from drowning after they were called out to a farm yesterday.
The horse got stuck in some mud in a stream near Hopewell Farm in West Carlton, Guiseley and was "struggling" to keep its head above water as it was laid down on the ground, a Cleckheaton Fire Station spokesperson said.
Firefighters from Cleckheaton and Rawdon - alongside vets and a taxi driver who was at the scene - managed to lift the 28-year-old horse "back to its feet" and get it to a "place of safety" after its ordeal.
A spokesperson from Cleckheaton Fire Station said: "We were called out yesterday morning at 11.23 to Hopewell Farm in West Carlton, Guiseley to reports of a horse stuck in mud in a stream.
"The horse was laid down and struggling to keep its head above the water. It was quite a big shire horse and was 28-years-old.
"We were called from Cleckheaton as we are the Animal Rescue Team, while Rawdon Fire Station also assisted.
"Working alongside vets, the Rawdon crew and a taxi driver at the scene, we managed to slide the horse to a place of safety and were able to lift it back to its feet.
"The horse is now safe and well."
