POLICE have warned people about fake £20 notes potentially circulating in a local community.

West Yorkshire Police's Leeds North West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) posted on its Facebook page on Monday to alert the public.

The post outlined that officers had received several reports of counterfeit £20 notes being used in the Guiseley area over the past week.

Police also shared a photo of one of the fakes, which was a copy of the old style £20 notes.

The post said: "There have been several reports of counterfeit £20 notes being used in Guiseley over the past week.

"To businesses and people regularly handling cash - please remain vigilant and double check, especially the older style paper notes."

One person replied to the post to say they thought they had been a victim of someone using one of the fakes.

They sold something to someone over Facebook Marketplace and were given a handful of cash.

It was only after that they realised one of the notes was counterfeit.
