A BRADFORD doctor says everyone should look at the historical reasons why some in the black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community are hesitancy about having the Covid vaccine.

Dr Amir Khan says some of the reasons behind people from BAME backgrounds being hesitant to take up the vaccine is down to historic discrimination, mistrust and misinformation.

But he added everyone in society should thank the BAME community for their role throughout the pandemic in key worker roles including in the NHS.

Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, he said: “People from BAME backgrounds have played a massive part throughout this pandemic.

“They are working as a much higher proportion in key workers jobs in the NHS, taxi drivers and shop keepers, to keep economy and keep us going.

“Now we really want them to take up the vaccine. We must not blame them for taking up the vaccine. We have got to look at historical reasons why people from these backgrounds feel discriminated against.

“We must thank them for helping to keep us alive and keeping us going.”
