FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a blaze in Bierley shortly after midnight this morning, as three fire engines attended an address on School Street.

The occupants of the house had already put the blaze out themselves when crews arrived at around 12.18am, although one man suffered smoke inhalation and had to be given oxygen therapy.

He was then left "in the hands of paramedics".

The fire was caused by a candle which had been placed on top of a TV, a West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said.

They added: "We administered oxygen to one adult male who had suffered smoke inhalation and the casualty was then left in the hands of paramedics.

"But we didn't do anything in regards to the fire, it was out on arrival. The occupants had already put it out before we got there.

"Smoke detection has now been installed and working.

"Two appliances from Bradford and one from Cleckheaton attended."
