MASKED men in balaclavas were spotted by local residents trying to take cannabis from a house near Peel Park in Bradford last night.

Police were called at 10.25pm on Sunday evening to reports of an ongoing burglary at Barmouth Terrace, Bradford.

A local resident said: "I heard banging and saw five men in balaclavas running with large bunches of cannabis.

"It was a burglary as they kicked the door in to rob it.

"You could see the cannabis and all the bags of compost at the entrance.

"They ran in and came out with what liked armfuls of trees.

"They filled the car with cannabis which was parked at the end of the street."

She then said a lot of police arrived at the scene and start to chase the men.

As the men ran away from the scene, the neighbour said a lot of the cannabis was "thrown over garden walls on route to them running off".

"It was all happening and all kicking off. It was quite a night."

The neighbour said the police appeared to have seized the small black car with the cannabis inside.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Suspects were seen breaking into a property and going inside. They fled the house and the scene with a large bag.

"Officers were deployed to the scene and arrested a 23-year-old man from Bradford on suspicion of burglary and production of Class B drugs.

"A quantity of cannabis was found in the bag taken from the house nearby and a cannabis farm was found at the property which was broken into."

Enquiries are ongoing.
