A YOUTH had to be rescued by firefighters after going through ice on a pond in Wibsey yesterday.
Crews from Odsal, Fairweather Green, Rastrick and Leeds with specialist water rescue equipment attended at around 3.50pm to a pond at Wibsey Park after the 13-year-old had attempted to cross the pond on the ice before going through it. He was rescued from the island in the centre and left in the care of Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Police also attended the scene.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service reiterated the dangers of walking and playing on frozen water courses and ponds in winter and urged people to avoid doing so.
