A MAN with 80 convictions for more than 190 offences has been handed a community order after stealing two wallets from a house.
Bradford Crown Court heard Craig McConnell, 37, of no fixed abode, burgled the house on Reevy Road, Wibsey, on December 2 last year.
The house was unoccupied, with the owner having moved to a care home due to her worsening health.
The court heard slats had been removed from the side door and two wallets, containing a small amount of foreign currency and belonging to the woman’s late husband, had been taken. Various rooms of the house had also been searched.
The defendant was arrested and taken to the police station, where he underwent a drugs test, which came back positive for class A drugs.
The court heard McConnell has 80 convictions for 193 offences and his offending began in 1998. At the time of this offence, he was in breach of a conditional discharge which he was given five days earlier for shoplifting.
He pleaded guilty to the burglary on January 6 of this year and had been in custody since the offence was committed. McConnell was given an 18-month community order, with 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement and a drug treatment requirement.
