A MAN who threatened to kill both of his parents and took part in a house burglary has been sentenced.

Jake Walker, 19, threatened to kill his mother and father on two separate occasions at their respective homes.

In the incident involving his mother, Walker had a knife in his hand and said ‘I’m going to stab you’.

He threw a brick at the kitchen window of his mother’s house and climbed in. He then told her ‘I’m going to stab you in the neck’.

The police arrived and arrested Walker at the scene. The incident, on June 10 last year, lasted around an hour.

Although Walker’s mother had no physical injuries, she was scared and fearful of her life, prosecutor Anthony Moore told Bradford Crown Court on Monday.

Walker, of no fixed address, threatened to kill his mother at her home in Dewsbury.

Meanwhile, Walker was in possession of a 10-inch long butterfly knife when he threatened his father at the latter’s address.

Walker, who was under the influence of drink and drugs, got into an argument with his father, the court heard.

Walker threatened to kill his father and said he would put his ‘windows through’.

His father was frightened by the incident and used a coffee table as a barrier to prevent Walker from entering the property. This incident took place on July 20 last year.

Walker’s fourth charge related to a burglary he carried out with another man at a flat in Elland.

The pair stole two televisions, items of clothing, a video games console and 200 vinyl records worth several thousands of pounds during the burglary on December 9 and 10, 2019.

Walker was captured five or six times on the flat complex’s CCTV going in and out of the flat between 10.45pm and 4.15am while the flat’s owner was at work. He was 18 at the time of the burglary.

Jo Shepherd, mitigating, said Walker had a lesser role in the burglary and he has already spent 12 months in custody and has not found it easy.

The court also heard Walker was diagnosed as autistic in 2016 aged 15 and his mother also appeared in court on his behalf.

He was sentenced for four offences of threats to kill, criminal damage, burglary and possession of a bladed article (a butterfly knife).

Judge Andrew Hatton told Walker: “I accept your autism has had an impact on your culpability in this offending.

"It has not been an easy relationship in recent times between you and your mother."

Walker was sentenced to three years detention in a young offenders institution. He will serve half in custody and will be release on licence for the second half of his sentence.
