PLANS to expand a Bradford manufacturing site, and create 40 jobs in the process, will go before a Planning Committee tomorrow.

Members of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee will decide whether to approve plans by Metalcraft Ltd to build a huge expansion to its Progress Works site on Hall Lane, East Bowling.

The existing building on the site has a floor area of 568 square metres - and the extension will provide an additional 5,369 square metres in floor area to allow for an engineering operation that will create 40 jobs at the metal manufacturer.

The amount of parking bays at the site will increase from 12 to 102.

The company submitted a planning application for the work in September.

A report going to the Committee, which meets online, recommends that the application be approved, and says: “Overall it is considered that the development, which will create 40 jobs on site, is acceptable and will not present any highway or visual amenity concerns and is sited such that the impact on the nearest residential properties will be minimal.”

It adds: “One of the main issues associated with the proposal is the presence of two mine shafts within the site. One of the shafts is located under a car parking area whilst the other shaft is located under the extension. Both shafts will need to be appropriately treated and capped to ensure the development is safe and the details will need to be agreed with the Coal Authority.”

Suggested conditions include that electric vehicle charging points be installed in the car park on the site.

The meeting starts online at 10am.
