A RETROSPECTIVE application by Morrisons to install "retail pods" in the car park of one of its Bradford stores has been approved.

The Bradford company's application, for a vape shop, barber and WeBuyAnyCar booth at its Idle branch, said work to install the businesses was completed in January 2020, without any planning permission in place.

An application was submitted once the company realised they needed planning permission.

Three people had objected to the plans, describing the shipping containers as "unsightly" and claiming they blocked sightlines as drivers manoeuvred the car park.

But planning officers said: "The pods are considered to be of modest scale and subservient to the main supermarket building given the close proximity and in view of the character and appearance of the wider retail park setting, the impact of the development is not considered incongruous or visually intrusive to the open view of extensive car parking.

"The impact on visual amenity is therefore acceptable."

Referring to the concerns over traffic, they added: "The siting of the pods will not interfere with the operation of the car park and are not

considered to obstruct visibility of moving vehicles and pedestrian circulation."
