A "POIGNANT yet powerful" short film on a Bradford councillor's battle with Covid-19 has been released online.

The Bradford Council film documents the experience of Councillor Mohammed Amran, of the Heaton ward, and the fear experienced by both himself and his family after he caught the virus in September.

Cllr Amran, who is also the chair of Bradford West Area Committee, had been self-isolating - along with his family - in order to protect his son, who is considered extremely vulnerable as he has leukaemia.

But after contracting coronavirus, Cllr Amran had to be admitted to Bradford Royal Infirmary, to be given help with his breathing.

In the film, he talks about being "worried" for both his and his family’s future after being taken to the hospital.

He also speaks of how his 85-year-old mother caught the virus and subsequently passed away at BRI on New Year's Day.

"It was a very difficult situation", Cllr Amran said, as his mother was someone his whole family "looked up to".

He added that "the key message" of the film is that "Covid is real" and "is not a joke".

“I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I would ask everyone to think about what they are doing", Cllr Amran said.

"We have to look after everyone, especially our most vulnerable. Please wear a mask and wash your hands. We need to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading.

“I will definitely be having the vaccine when it’s offered to me and I encourage everyone to do the same to protect their family, friends and colleagues.

"Please don’t believe any myths, trust our doctors and get vaccinated.”
