TWO school breakfast clubs have been chosen as finalists for Yorkshire and Humber as part of the annual Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards.

Rainbow Primary School in Bradford and Roberttown Junior and Infant School in Liversedge will battle it out for a £1,000 cash prize for the winner, plus a special party pack to help them celebrate. They have been shortlisted for the Yorkshire and Humber crown alongside a school from Leeds and another from South Yorkshire.

The Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards champion the people and activities that make Breakfast Clubs so great – from inspirational volunteers to invaluable extra learning sessions.

Around 30 children attend the breakfast club at Rainbow Primary in Bradford every morning before school. During the first national lockdown, the club stayed open to ensure children were provided with breakfast and snacks throughout the school day.

Since reopening in September, the club has made various adaptations such as separate tables for bubbles and dividing the canteen into sub sections to ensure the club can stay running to benefit the children, parents and community.

When pupils at Roberttown Junior and Infant School in Liversedge were asked by staff what they liked about the breakfast club, they highlighted how the club wakes them up, helps them to learn and gets them ready for the day.

The aim of this year’s Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards is to recognise schools all over the UK for the incredible role they have played to educate and safeguard children throughout this pandemic.

Kate Prince, Kellogg’s corporate social responsibility manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “So many clubs across the UK deserve recognition and after receiving 450 applications, it’s been tough to pick our finalists from so many inspiring stories.”

“Breakfast clubs like the ones at Rainbow Primary School and Roberttown Junior and Infant School play a vital role in society.

“Thanks to the staff’s dedication, they support working parents, feed hungry children and offer opportunities to increase informal learning with activities and socialisation.”

“Kellogg’s has supported Breakfast Clubs for 22 years and this year we’ve seen the clubs face more challenges than ever before so we are delighted to be able to recognise them for all of the hard work and dedication they have put in to keep things going.’’ A specialist panel of judges will now assess all shortlisted entries across the UK and the winners will be announced on February 10.
