POLICE seized more than 1,000 cannabis plants, worth more than £1.3 million, in one week.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Bradford East Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) conducted "Operation Engage" over the course of last week.

The team shared the results of the operation - which is part of its ongoing engagement with Bradford East communities and carried the slogan "you said, we did" - on Facebook.

The post said: "As part of our ongoing engagement with our communities, your Neighbourhood Policing Team have in the last week taken a very large amount of drugs off the streets of Bradford East with links to Organised Criminality."

Police visited five properties in total.

The largest raid was at an address in the Bradford Moor area.

Officers discovered 667 cannabis plants at the property - estimated to have a street value of around £700,000.

Police also caught two males, who they arrested.

The men have since been charged and remanded in prison awaiting trial.

Officers visited two addresses in the Barkerend area.

There were 550 cannabis plants taken from these properties.

Police are investigating to find those responsible for the Barkerend farms.

The plants were worth roughly £600,000.

Officers discovered two cannabis farms in the Thorpe Edge area.

One property had 45 plants, worth £50,000 in street value.

A female was interviewed and issued with a conditional caution in relation to this.

The other farm had 13 plants - valued at £15,000 - and a male was interviewed.

He was issued with an adult caution.

Altogether, 1,275 cannabis plants were discovered over the week, worth around £1,365,000 in street value.

Police seized and destroyed all the drugs.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "We will not tolerate production of drugs in our community and we will act upon any intelligence provided to us.
