BRADFORD South MP Judith Cummins has called on the Prime Minister to set out a plan to vaccinate key workers – including teachers, police officers, and shop workers – after the most vulnerable groups have been reached.

Mrs Cummins asked Boris Johnson about the Government’s plan to vaccinate key workers following the news that Bradford has passed the 1,000 milestone of Covid-19-related deaths.

Speaking during a statement in the House of Commons, Mrs Cummins said: “ONS data shows that key workers and those in manual and public-facing jobs are at highest risk of dying from coronavirus.

“Bradford is a key worker city and tragically over one thousand Bradfordians have now died from the virus.

“When the most vulnerable groups have been successfully vaccinated will the Prime Minister ensure that priority is then given to those frontline workers who have played such a key role in keeping the country going during the pandemic often with a high level of personal risk, including police officers, teachers, shop workers, bus and taxi drivers and the many others who are unable to work from home?”

She also called on the Prime Minister to publish the Government’s plan for the next stage of the roll-out.

The Prime Minister replied: “I think we should leave it to the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) to decide the most vulnerable groups. That's what we're going to do. That's the fastest way to deal with those who are most likely to die.”

Speaking afterwards, Mrs Cummins said: “Millions of key workers have put themselves at risk to keep the country going during the pandemic.

"The Prime Minister is letting them down by refusing to outline a plan to vaccinate them in the next stage of the roll-out. He simply can’t answer a straightforward question. The Government must urgently set out what they will do protect workers in the coming months.”
