A MAN has avoided an immediate jail sentence after admitting charges of sexual assault and harassment.
Mohammed Asghar, 53, of Southfield Lane, Bradford, appeared before Bradford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.
The charges related to incidents which took place in 2019. The court heard he had repeatedly attempted to kiss his victim despite her telling him not to, before putting his hands on her breasts and asking for a date.
She later received WhatsApp messages from him of a vulgar nature. The court heard the woman had broken down to her partner about what had happened and then reported it to police.
The incident had caused her a “great deal of anxiety and distress”.
The court heard Asghar was of previous good character. He was handed four months imprisonment for the sexual assault and two months for the harassment, suspended for 18 months.
He must carry out 50 days rehabilitation requirement, pay £250 towards the cost of the prosecution and register with the police for seven years.
