WITH people spending the majority of their free time at home during lockdown, many have decided to open their hearts and homes to a pet in 2020.

According to data from the RSPCA, interest for adopting pets on their website grew 68% during lockdown (between March 23 and December 31).

Their fostering page also saw a staggering 244 per cent increase in page views- especially when it came to fostering a dog (page views increased by 87%).

However, it’s important to remember that a pet is for life- not just for lockdown.

Here are some local rescue animals looking for their forever homes:

Daisy and Buttercup

These playful ferrets are looking for a new home.

Buttercup is the more adventurous of the two and Daisy is more likely to lounge in bed before greeting her owner.

Both will benefit greatly from an owner who is willing to spend time with them and handling them with care.

They are both neutered and vaccinated and can both be bonded with a male ferret.

Trevor

Before coming to the shelter, Trevor was just a stray who was wandering the streets.

After a lot of love and TLC, he has proven himself to be a big softie who interacts with staff members at the centre.

However, Trevor is an outdoor cat at heart and loves to explore and have a fuss.

His new owners will need to give him regular access to the outside world.

Trevor needs a bit of time to settle in and warm to his new owners- as a result he would ideally need a quiet spare room or peaceful area in the house to relax in when he moves in.

If you think your home is suitable for Trevor, download a cat application form on the RSPCA website.

Chica

Chica is currently in a foster home but is still looking for a more permanent residence.

He foster parents said she has settled in quickly and loves sitting close to her owners.

She is more of an indoor cat, who prefers to relax inside- but she does love to play with string and balls.

Ideally, Chica should be placed in a quite home with older children or just adults.

Tinkerbell

This four-year-old tabby  is a confident kitty who is looking for a new owner to love.

She is incredibly affectionate and enjoys being around people.

When she isn’t getting neck scratches, you will find her with her scratch post or playing with her string toy.

She is a dominant cat, so would be best suited as the only cat in the house.

While she does enjoy her time indoors, she would also benefit from having a cat flap as she likes to explore the outdoors too.

Teddy

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: TeddyTeddy

The appropriately named, Teddy, can be picked up in Bradford.

The Rottweiler x German Shepherd is fully house trained and has also had some obedience trained.

However, he is only 18 months old so still has a lot more to learn.

However, he is best suited to an adult-only home with adults only.

He can also be reactive towards other dogs and will need a skilled owner to train him on walks.

It’s also important to note that he has suffered ear issues in the past, which were treated with ear drops.

Contact Greenleaf Animal Rescue to learn more about Teddy.
