DANCING on Ice has seen some impressive celebs take to the rink over the years - and some of the best ones trained here in Bradford.

Former Emmerdale and Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon dazzled millions of viewers with her skating skills back in 2010, and she and professional partner Daniel Whiston went on to be crowned winners of the fifth series of Dancing on Ice that year. The pair trained and perfected their routines at Bradford Ice Arena.

Another star of Dancing on Ice was Chris Fountain, from Wibsey. He took part in 2008, when he was in Hollyoaks (he later joined Corrie) and trained with his professional partner Frankie Poultney at Bradford's rink. The pair came second in the final.

Other celebrity contestants who trained at Bradford Ice Arena include former Bradford City player Lee Sharpe, Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden, Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson and Emily Symons, who was in Emmerdale and Australian soap Home and Away.

With Dancing on Ice back on ITV, here’s a look at some previous contestants in training at Bradford Ice Arena.

The rink opened in 1966 as Silver Blades, and was described as “the finest rink in the world”. With coloured lighting, sparkling chandeliers over the ice and a plush bar and restaurant, it was hugely popular.

It opened with a gala that featured performances by British skaters who had just returned from the World Championships, including John Curry, Sally Anne Stapleford and ice dancers Bernard Ford and Diane Towler.
