THE Lord Mayor of Bradford has described feeling a sense of "relief" when she received her first Covid-19 vaccine at Bradford Royal Infirmary today.

Councillor Doreen Lee (Keighley, Labour) attended her appointment alongside her 77-year-old husband and 21-year-old grandson who has Down's syndrome and other conditions.

Volunteer vaccinator Savitri Cameron, a community matron, gave Cllr Lee her jab at the hospital's vaccination centre.

Now she has teamed up with Bradford Teaching Hospital Trust to share the message, 'Grab the chance when the NHS calls you!'.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus, Cllr Lee said: "I didn't even know she'd done it.

"The message I'm giving out to everybody is please, please come forward, wherever you are, and get your vaccines.

"It was such a relief moment. Once you've had it, I just felt 'Well we're on the right road now'.

"I have to say, the BRI and the staff and the set up they've got there is fantastic. They are wonderful. All the NHS is wonderful but the set up they've got at the BRI hospital is brilliant. It's smooth, it's quick.

"Please get vaccinated when it's your turn, when you're called, go and get vaccinated."
