IN the past 10 months, the world has faced unprecedented levels of hardship and grief but Bradford’s unsung heroes made this difficult time more bearable for many.

From those who packed food parcels for families in need to the people who kept young children entertained during the holidays, the annual Community Stars Awards took on a new meaning with hundreds of nominators shouting up about the stars of 2020.

As we start this supplement with photographic reminders of the stars celebrated in 2019’s ceremony, it is a reminder to all of us that there are kind and generous people all around us.

The esteemed awards, organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council, are designed to honour the very best of our citizens for their selfless endeavour.

The categories include The Voluntary & Community Group Award, The Shared Values in Action Award, Outstanding Student of the Year, The Outstanding Contribution to Earliest Years of Life Award, Volunteer of the Year, Good Neighbour, Fundraiser of the Year, Young Active Citizen and Business Making A Difference. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite finalist HERE.

Votes will close on Sunday, January 31.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “Once again the people of Bradford have demonstrated their kindness and community spirit during these difficult times. We know that that people have gone that extra mile to look after their neighbours, friends, colleagues and families. Volunteers have undertaken essential and vital work supporting public services with food distribution, shopping for vulnerable people, creating local befriending projects and numerous additional activities that make us proud residents of this district.

“We have had a great response to our request for nominations of the Community Stars Awards and now it us up to all of us to show our appreciation to the shortlisted candidates by voting for them.”
