FOUR Council owned houses, including one in Saltaire and another near a Denholme park, will go to auction next month.

Bradford Council has listed the houses at an online property auction on February 24.

If all the properties meet their guide price it could bring in £280,000 to the public purse.

The properties up for auction are

- 1 Foster Park, Denholme, a three bedroom detached house that has an £85,000 guide price. It has front and back gardens.

- 6 Albert Avenue Saltaire, a three bedroom mid-terrace house with a guide price of £95,000. It has front and back gardens, both of which are badly overgrown

- 32 Carleton Street, Keighley, a two bedroom mid terrace house. The house also has a cellar and rear courtyard. It has a guide price of £45,000.

- 177 Amberley Street, a three bedroom mid terrace house in Barkerend. It has a guide price of £55,000. The auction listing points out that the building is in need of refurbishment.

Council owned house sells at auction for £60,000 - three times the guide price

As part of the Council's empty homes policy, the authority often takes ownership of long empty properties in order to bring them back onto the housing market.

Homes are obtained by measures such as compulsory purchase orders or by agreement with the owners.

Sometimes the Council disposes of properties by passing them onto charities or registered social landlords.

On other occasions the homes are sold at auction.
