PARENTS have expressed concerns about the spread of Covid-19 after the number of staff cases at a school in Heaton, Bradford, is now in double digits.

High Park School, for pupils with severe and complex needs arising from communication and interaction difficulties, autism and severe learning disabilities, took the action after staff members tested positive.

A letter sent to parents on Monday read: "Unfortunately, we have been informed by Public Health England that ten members of staff tested positive for Covid-19, three were confirmed last week and then five more on Sunday and two were confirmed today.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are working closely with Public Health England to ensure we are doing all we can to reduce the risks as much as possible.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronvirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"There are a number of pupils and staff who are contacts and are now self-isolating for ten days. The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."

Parents have also told the T&A that since the letter was released, they were informed of two additional staff member cases at the school on Thorn Lane.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “The school has had some positive cases, with some classes therefore closed. We continue to provide support to schools all across the district at this very difficult time for all of them. It’s important that we all work together to stop the spread of the virus.”
