A ROAD in the district is closed this evening, with firefighters called in to pump water away.

In a flooding update issued just before 8pm, Bradford Council said Apperley Road is closed at the George and Dragon pub, next to the junction to Harrogate Road (A658).

A spokesperson said: "The fire service is pumping water away from the car park to protect people’s properties nearby.

"The water was not expected to flood inside homes, however there are some vulnerable residents in these properties so we took this extra precaution."

The road is expected to remain closed for a "couple of hours". A Met Office Amber weather warning for rain remains in place until 6am tomorrow.
