A SCHEME to convert a city centre office building into residential could have more flats than originally planned.

Last year a developer announced plans to convert the 47,600 sq ft, six-storey former Abbey National office building on Bolton Road into 94 flats.

The development would have been carried out under "permitted development" - a Government policy that allows developers to create flats in office buildings without the need for planning permission.

Now applicant Mr Khan has informed Bradford Council of plans to add another four flats to the plans - for a total of 98 flats.

The previous plans - announced last year, did not included details such as the proposed layout of the flats.

New rule that permitted development flats need to measure at least 37 square metres is welcomed - but 'does not go far enough'

The new application does include floor plans, and shows that the flats would range in size from between 40 square metres and 61 square metres.

The vast majority of flats would be one bed.

There would also be a concierge area.

The Council can only refuse the plan if it has serious concerns over environmental health, highways or flooding.

The authority will decide if this is the case by late February.
