THE River Aire has burst it's banks in Saltaire's Roberts Park as Storm Christoph's downpours continue to cause flooding.

The river has risen up and over paths in the park following the deluge of rain since yesterday morning across the district.

There are flood alerts along the River Aire, warning of possible flooding to people's properties and roads, as well as on the River Worth and River Spen.

The Flood information service has said: "River levels are forecast to continue to remain elevated across the Middle River Aire Catchment as a result of persistent rainfall.

"Further rainfall is expected throughout today which will elevate river levels further.

"Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible. Areas most at risk are low lying land, roads and farmland.

"Our field teams have checked defences and cleared screens ahead of the rainfall and we are liaising closely with our partners to ensure they are ready to respond."

Sandbags have been distributed to areas usually worst affected by flooding, and the Half Moon Café in Roberts Park has also sandbagged its windors and doors to protect from possible flooding.
