FLOOD alerts for the River Wharfe and River Aire are still in force due to rising water levels from persistent rain on Tuesday.

A tweet by the North Yorkshire Police late on Tuesday afternoon said: “The pond by the Hunters Inn is now flooding into the road. The River Wharfe has been rising all day at Pool-in-Wharfedale. It’s not looking good for tomorrow.”

West Yorkshire Prepared also tweeted: "In anticipation of heavy rainfall in West Yorkshire tonight, partners across the region are working closely together to ensure we're as prepared as can be for any potential flooding."

The Environment Agency issued flood alerts for the Upper River Wharfe and Upper Aire catchment and warned that flooding of roads and farmland would be possible.

They also asked residents to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and not to walk or drive through flood water.

Persistent and heavy rain is forecast until early Thursday.
