A BRADFORD restaurant has been voted the city's most popular takeaway dish, just a few months after opening.

German Doner Kebab (GDK), which opened at the Xchange on Charles Street, near The Broadway in October last year, has come out on top in Deliveroo's top five Bradford dishes list.

The gourmet kebab chain's original German Doner Kebab has been voted the favourite dish in the survey from the on-demand food delivery service.

Deliveroo released this survey among its customers to mark its fourth birthday in Bradford.

Saturday at 8.08pm is the most popular time for Bradfordians to order Deliveroo, according to the firm’s data.

Meanwhile, Friday is the night most Bradford residents prefer to order in a Deliveroo.

Further data has shown locals love German food the most, followed by American and Thai.

The Original Bite from BITE Burger, based in Ebenezer Street, was voted second most popular takeaway in Bradford.

Pad Thai from My Thai, based in Keighley Road, was third, a Soft Medium White Loaf 800g from ALDI was voted the fourth most popular takeaway.

Since its launch in the city four years ago, more than 100 restaurants have signed up to the platform.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Saqib Gill, manager of GDK's Bradford branch, says the Deliveroo ranking is great recognition for the newly-opened site as it continues to cope with the trading restrictions due to the third national lockdown.

He said: "It's humbling, reassuring, all in one. Recognition like this is great as it means people rate you in a certain way.

"We are starting to navigate our way through these uncertain waters. I think it will all be better in a few months' time for us.

"We're doing as well as we can. It's a difficult time of year and we have lost footfall due to the lockdown, with the shops closed.

"We're holding our own through delivery platforms like Deliveroo."

GDK opened its first restaurant in Berlin in 1989. Now based in Glasgow, the brand has 65 restaurants in UK, Europe and the Middle East and is expanding into America, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Ireland.

Deliveroo says it has created work for more than 300 people, with the majority of these being the Deliveroo riders who deliver your food which is cooked fresh to order and delivered to your door within 30 minutes.

Deliveroo supports local businesses in Bradford, with 60 per cent of its restaurant partners being local independent restaurants, creating new revenue streams for homegrown culinary talent.

Harison Foster, Regional Director for the UK, said: “Our whole team here at Deliveroo are delighted that our rapid growth in Bradford over the past four years means that customers have more choice, restaurants are able to increase their revenue, and riders have the opportunity to choose well-paid, flexible work.”
