POLICE recovered a van at a petrol station in Shipley last night after the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled in a different one as police approached.

Officers tracked down the white Ford Transit van on Sunday evening after receiving reports it was being driven badly in the area.

PSCO Rob Parker said that when officers approached the driver to speak to them, they got into another vehicle and fled the scene.

Checks carried out on the Transit revealed it had no registered keeper and was not insured.

PSCO Parker said the van was therefore classed as abandoned at the filling station, and was recovered by police.
