AN application to amend plans for a city centre flats development has been approved.

Proposals to turn 16-18 Mill Street, opposite the Travelodge near Forster Square, into 27 one and two bed flats were approved by Bradford Council last year.

This week applicant HM Properties was given permission to amend the plans for the building - to include office space in the lower ground floor of the development, space previously allocated as storage.

This area of the building would not allow the creation of flats due to potential flood risk. Office use falls into a 'less vulnerable' use than flats when it comes to determining flood risks.

Grand 'palazzo' style Bradford building to be turned into flats

The Grade II listed building dates back to the 1870s, and previous plans to redevelop the building have not come to pass.

On the application to add office space, planning officers said: "The Council's Drainage Engineer has reviewed the updated proposals and accompanying

flood risk assessment and concludes that there are no concerns with the introduction of office space at lower ground floor.

"The Heritage Officer also concludes that subject to adherence with previous heritage related conditions the proposal would not adversely affect the heritage asset."
