YORKSHIRE Ambulance Service NHS Trust tonight says it has stood down from major status after heavy snowfall battered the county including Bradford.

The heavy snow today led to high demand for emergency ambulances which caused difficulties for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

But the Trust says the situation has now eased but called for the public to take extra care if they need to drive in the wintry conditions.

A Trust spokesman said: “Further to the release of our media statement earlier today regarding the difficulties the Trust was experiencing with adverse weather conditions and high demand, we can confirm that the situation has now eased and the Trust has stood down from major incident status.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely, particularly in light of the Met Office yellow warning for ice which is in place for much of the country overnight.

“We urge the public to take extra care if they need to go outside or drive and, where possible, should avoid travelling at all in snowy or icy conditions.”
