A NUMBER of Bradford roads are to be closed in the coming weeks as part of ongoing, £30 million development works.

Northern Powergrid has been improving the reliability and resilience of the electricity network serving Bradford as part of this multi-million pound project since September 2019.

The works, which will continue until the end of 2022, involve excavating in the road to lay a total of 132km (around 82 miles) of new underground electricity cables.

This has a route length of 17km (10.5 miles).

The energy supplier has confirmed the dates for the next sections of development.

The roadworks will mainly be in the Queen's Road, King's Road, Canal Road and Manningham Road areas.

There are no plans to turn anyone's power off as part of the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and letters have been issued to all homes and business premises directly affected.

A spokeswoman for Northern Powergrid said: “We’re continuing to make solid progress with our £30 million investment in the city and we’re anticipating that all of the main excavation work will be completed by April.

"After that we’ll be returning to the start of the route to pull our new cables into the ducting we’ve laid in the road and join sections of these cables together.

"We’ll share our programme for this next stage of our work as soon as we can.

“Once again, we’d like to thank local people for their ongoing patience while we strive to complete our investment work in the area as quickly as possible."
