THE decision has been made to close Bradford Cathedral for public worship amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

The Sunday Eucharist service will continue to be streamed online via the cathedral’s YouTube channel and the daily morning and evening prayer will be available online as well, Monday – Saturday 9am and 5.30pm, and Sunday at 3.30pm.

Links to the services are available via the Bradford Cathedral website, on the ‘What’s On’ calendar.

The cathedral will continue to open from 2pm – 4pm Wednesday – Saturday for personal prayer, but this will be reviewed daily. Guidance for visitors to Bradford Cathedral is available online, and on site, for those coming to pray.

The Very Revd Jerry Lepine, Dean of Bradford, said: “Given the context of the current situation, we believe that this is not only the most responsible decision but also the safest.  Many churches and cathedrals have already done this.

“Hospitals, care homes, schools, supermarkets, those giving the vaccines and the bereaved have been in the news. Let us remember them particularly in our prayers and support them, and others that we know, in 'safe' ways.”

There are activities, resources and videos available via the Bradford Cathedral website for those at home, including videos focusing on the heritage of the building, digital schools’ resources covering a range of subjects for those studying at home, and a 360-degree tour of the cathedral.

People can watch previous services back and much more on YouTube. There is also an online course, for those looking to learn more about the Christian faith, which begins on Thursday, January 21.
