REPORTS of a fire at Queensbury Academy were a "false alarm", the trust has confirmed.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue were called to the school, on Deanstones Lane, at 8.13pm on Monday (January 11) after the automatic fire alarm sent a response.

Two fire engines - one each from Fairweather Green and Illingworth - responded to the incident and started searching for the source of a fire.

Following an investigation, crews found there was no fire and left at 9.15pm.

Feversham Education Trust said it is currently working with the alarm provider to understand why it sent out an alarm.

A spokesperson from the school said: “We can confirm that the event was a false alarm, with no fire on site.

"The fire services attended as a precaution, and we are now working alongside the alarm provider to understand the reasoning behind the false activation.

"No staff and students were involved and everyone at the school is safe and well.”
