A TRAFFIC officer has warned against using an icy lane on a motorway after a crash.
PC Martin Willis - better known as Motorway Martin on Twitter - has been keeping an eye on the M62 today.
He said lane three of the westbound carriageway, between junction 24 (Ainley Top) and junction 22 (Rishworth Moor) is icy due to "a fair bit of blown snow and ice".
The officer explained this should not be an issue, as the motorway is very quiet, so there would be no need to venture into lane three.
But one driver did move into the lane and crashed.
Their black Mercedes was smashed badly at the back and the front-right of the car was also damaged.
The driver was uninjured.
PC Willis said on Twitter: "We've had a fair bit of blown snow and ice in lane three of the M62 between junctions 24 and 22.
"However, as the motorway is so quiet, there shouldn't be any need to venture into lane three.
"The driver of this car did and fortunately escaped injury.
"Slow down and beware of ice and snow."
