LATEST NEWS: These two schools are shut to ALL pupils today due to 'challenging conditions'

SIX Bradford shools are closed to all pupils today, with half of them shutting due to snowfall in the district.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the city this morning, with icy patches set to form and light snow showers expected between 9am and 11am.

Temperatures are not forecasted to rise above one degree Celsius today in Bradford.

Many areas across the district are beginning to be covered in a blanket of snow, which seems to be settling.

This has led to three schools making the decision to close to all pupils, including key worker and vulnerable children.

St John and Evangelist Catholic Primary School, in Beacon Road, and St Winefride's Catholic Primary Academy, in St Paul's Avenue, are both closed all day due to heavy snowfall.

The former outlines that all learning will be online today, while the latter states the site is unsafe because of the snow.

Beckfoot Upper Heaton, off Thorn Lane, will close its vulnerable and key worker provision from 12pm today, due to the snow.

The school said: "Online live provision will continue as normal.

"Families are requested to collect their child(ren) as soon as possible and before 12 noon at the latest."

Beckfoot Phoenix, in Keighley, is another new setting added to the school closures list today.

This is due to a boiler fault though, rather than the current snowfall.

The issue means the school has no heating or hot water.

Merlin Top Primary Academy, in Keighley, and Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary School, in The Bank, continue to be closed today.

Merlin Top Primary has had heating issues all week.

Engineers are back in the school to try resolve the problem today and over the weekend.

The school said: "Updates will be provided to parents and families via text."

Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary announced earlier this week that it would shut to all students until Monday, January 11, due to staff illness.

It will reopen on that day for key worker and vulnerable children.
